My day with the Penguins…”



The Yellow-Eyed Penguin is native exclusively to New Zealand, and very nearly extinct. Their numbers are less than 3,000 in the wild. This species is the only non-social penguin, nesting and living in solitude along the southern coast. The Yellow-Eyed will only nest where there is no other nest within sight. They claim their space with their loud unique territorial call. Today, I got to visit one of the last remaining nesting beaches in the world…
