Given the landscape of our current political dilemma, I felt it appropriate to focus on moral foundations. We learn our morality as children from the interaction with other children. No role model or religious affiliation can replace what good old fashion stimulation of the mirror neurons can build. When and how we use these lessons as adults becomes another matter though, as often times the “I” becomes more than our ability to share compassion can withstand. Whenever emotional transferral becomes a trade off, the mind often sees this as opportunity costs, and we all know how that feels. Granny Bug often suggested to me as a small boy, that doing the right thing when no one was watching was more important than doing it because someone was watching. We fashion ourselves with high standards, yet how often do we test those expectations on the lives we live? The persona a life of freely giving our hearts shines brightly amongst the darkness of selfish indulgence. We’re enamoured with selflessness simply because of its rarity, and quite often because we don’t stop to consider our selfishness of daily life. Being a good person isn’t a lifestyle, but rather a state of being. All that’s required is the attitude of gratefulness and the dawn of a new day to apply it…
