The distance between individuals, cultures, and nations is correlated to the discrimination of knowledge. If you know and understand things about your consciousness, that another person fails to comprehend or lacks exposure to, then you have an advantage of understanding in certain circumstances. Experiences offer opportunity to access and supply knowledge, but are limited to just the encounters one is involved in. Education is the primary supplier for knowledge, but varies widely across the landscape of the human existence, and is retained in disproportionate degrees based upon the settings its provided in. Parenting fills some of the gaps left by created from these other sources, but also varies widely due to a range of factors. In today’s internet connected world, the access to knowledge is much more readily available to those fortunate enough to not live in the oppressed or ultra impoverished regions of society, yet knowledge spreads unevenly still yet.
So, what is it about our species that struggles to overcome knowledge clustering within the overall population?
Knowledge equates to power, and power insites ego, which in turn promotes fear of scarcity, thus withholding knowledge becomes a survival mechanism. The first 1500 years of Christianity were a great example, as the church hoarded all publications of the Bible, given they were the only organization allowed to reproduce the manuscript. The advent of the printing press allowed for millions of followers to have their own copies, and thus fracturing the stronghold of the church’s power.

Knowledge can only spread where there are the freedoms to seek and discuss its content. Diversion away from the underlying truth can be every bit as detrimental as oppression of access.
